“We are at a turning point in the Slovenian society, when citizens will decide in a referendum on the introduction of assisted suicide, and the murder of unborn children is trying to be established as a fundamental human right,” the Catholic Youth wrote in a press release.
In recent days, the Catholic Youth (Slovenska katoliška mladina – SKAM), along with other Slovenian organisations working in the area of respecting life from conception to natural death, issued a joint statement addressing young people in particular.
Prayer is, according to the Catholic Youth, an urgent and powerful support “in saving lives, in saving us from the evil of death, from despair, lies, abandonment, deception and darkness.” It is a support for the right to life, which is most threatened in the case of the weakest, the unborn and the elderly.
We are publishing their statement in its entirety below:
“Dear young people,
On Friday, the 10th of May 2024, a regular prayer of the Holy Rosary was held at Congress Square in Ljubljana. This time, in particular, respect for human life from conception to natural death was prayed for.
Prayer is an urgent and powerful support in saving lives, in saving us from the evil of death, from despair, lies, abandonment, deception and darkness. It is support for the right to life, which is most threatened in the case of the weakest, the unborn and the elderly. Extreme individualism has led to the rampant killing of unborn children, called “abortion,” and to the introduction of assisted self-poisoning and medical poisoning of patients, called “euthanasia.”
We live in a time when Slovenian society is at a turning point, when citizens will decide in a referendum on the introduction of assisted suicide, and the murder of unborn children is trying to be established as a fundamental human right. Therefore, we would like to invite you to pray and to actively help the vulnerable, especially pregnant women in distress, the voiceless and the elderly, to build a society in which “abortion” and “euthanasia” will not be the only option in times of distress. At the same time, we encourage you to spread awareness of what they are really about, and to courageously defend the sanctity of human life wherever you are.
Various groups, initiatives or organisations working in Slovenia in the area of respecting life from conception to natural death can help you to do both.”
