On the show Beremo (Reading) on the 24th of April 2021, the host of the show Metod Berlec, and his guest Jože Možina, Ph.D., otherwise a renowned historian and journalist of RTV Slovenia, spoke about some of the traumatic periods in Slovenia’s recent history, the Slovenian media scene, and the current socio-political events. They also spoke about the celebration of Resistance Day, which is officially celebrated on the 27th of April in Slovenia. “We are about to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Liberation Front, which is celebrated every year by the heirs and sympathisers of the previous totalitarian regime and the proponents of the tradition of the so-called National Liberation Movement,” the host of the show Metod Berlec said in the introduction.
“The communists only woke up afterwards, not when their homeland was attacked, but when another country – the Soviet Union – was attacked. And to prove that they had been nationally conscious before that already, they literally falsified, constructed the 27th of April for themselves, which was merely a date of one of the meetings that different groups had at the time. It was relatively insignificant; neither Edvard Kardelj nor Edvard Kocbek were present at it. It was basically a meeting of the “Association of Friends of the Soviet Union,” and we all know who was part of that. But to make the confusion even greater, later, when they tried to reconstruct this date and give it a meaning, they even missed the actual date,” historian and journalist dr. Jože Možina explained the falsity of the celebration of the “Resistance Day.”
With this, Berlec pointed out that nothing related to the resistance against the occupier actually happened on the 27th of April 1941 in Ljubljana. “It is true; this is a very unfortunate date. In their benevolence, our independence fathers or stakeholders who decided on public holidays probably also overlooked or did not count on the fact that this matter will return, as it is now returning, in terms of celebrating the one-mindedness and the former regime,” Možina initially said. It was not a revolt against the greatest occupier of all the occupiers who occupied Slovenian territory, and thas it was also not a revolt against all the regimes that carried out violence in our country – Nazism, fascism, and communism, as the matter quickly turned into something else.
“In reality, the communists were in big trouble regarding the interpreting and proving of their patriotism for the Kingdom of Yugoslavia – their homeland. Most of the time we were part of the Kingdom, they were destroying the Kingdom of Yugoslavia as a state, also at the behest of the Communist International, and at their own will.” As early as 1940, Josip Broz Tito already asked the Communist International if they could start a revolution, as he found the situation favourable. In 1940, it was only a matter of time before the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was invaded by the Kingdom of Italy.
In 1941, the Slovenian Communists obeyed the Communist International and devotedly collaborated with the Nazis
“During this time, when the Hitler-Stalin pact applied, the communists were either passive, or more or less openly obeying the Communist International, which they trusted more than God, and collaborating with the Nazis. Any propaganda against Hitler, against National Socialism, was forbidden, but the Western allies were being attacked.” We know that the first military organisation was started by a traditional camp. This was the Slovenian Legion, which was established at the end of May, and later we also got the Sokol Legion (Falcon Legion). “The communists only woke up later, not when their homeland was being invaded, but when another country – the Soviet Union – was being invaded.”
But to make the confusion even greater, later, when they tried to reconstruct this date and give it a meaning, they even missed the actual date. The date of the meeting was not the 27th of April, but the 26th of April.” Before that, the communists had a very interesting, even slightly negative attitude towards the Western Allies.
Until the German attack on the Soviet Union, the Slovenian communists proclaimed: “Germany and the Soviet Union are victims of the Western imperialists”
Možina also read a short paragraph on this topic: all of the communist material on this topic, which was being created since the pact between the Soviet Union and Germany was made, and up until the attack on the former by the latter, is being carefully hidden, as it actually includes proof that the communists collaborated with the Nazis, treated the Western Allies as adversaries, and even blamed them for starting the war. They even said that “Germany and the Soviet Union are victims of the Western imperialists.” And it was only when the attack on the Soviet Union took place that everything turned around in an instant. The Communist International ordered the resistance of all communist parties.
