Slovenia Endorsed The Shameful UN Resolution And Thus Sided With Russia, Iran And Syria

Slovenia was among the countries that joined Iran, Syria and Russia on Friday in voting in favour of a resolution that does not name Hamas or specifically call for the release of Israeli hostages.

If the far-left Left party (Levica) is proud of what happened yesterday, something is seriously wrong. The Left party’s MP Matej Tašner Vatovec said: “This time we can be really proud of Slovenia. Congratulations to our diplomats and to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs for standing up and for standing on the right side of history.” According to media reports, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on Friday calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East, which should provide clear protection for civilians on both sides. The resolution, which was strongly criticised by Israel, was also supported by Slovenia.

No specific mention of Hamas, no emphasis on the importance of the release of the hostages!

Prime Minister Robert Golob also expressed his support for the resolution. Of the 193 United Nations members, 120 voted in favour of the resolution, 14 voted against it, and 45 abstained. The resolution was sponsored by Jordan. Alongside Israel, the USA has also strongly criticised it. The individual European countries voted differently, but the fact is that Slovenia supported something that puts us alongside Russia, Iran and Syria, and which does not specifically mention Hamas or stress the importance of the release of hostages.

Golob is delighted with the adoption of the resolution

Golob could not hide his delight at the adoption of the shameful resolution. Namely, he said: “Today’s support by the vast majority of UN Member States, including Slovenia, for a resolution calling for an immediate and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East, sends a clear and strong message for the protection of civilians on both sides, against war crimes and for respect for the principles of international humanitarian law.”
