When asked about why her assistant had edited the report prepared by the European Parliament’s LIBE committee of inquiry, Member of European Parliament Tanja Fajon made the excuse that he only corrected grammatical errors in the document. However, it has now come to light that certain parts of the report are missing. And apparently, it is mostly the parts that do not fit Fajon’s agenda. Namely, city councillor Borut Rojc did not find his statement on the financial assistance of the Ministry of the Interior to the municipalities on the border that suffered dagame due to illegal migrations anywhere in the report. He therefore called on the President of the European Parliament to launch an independent investigation to find out what actually happened. Meanwhile, Fajon is thinking about the future of the Schengen area and believes that freedom of movement is being seriously tested.
“On the future of the Schengen area. You are invited to join us this week. Freedom of movement is being seriously tested,” wrote Tanja Fajon, MEP and president of the Social Democrats party (SD), who got several new nicknames last week due to the recent affair involving her assistant. Namely, people called her everything from proofreader to the queen of lies. It recently became known that Jure Tanko, Fajon’s assistant, edited the report of the mission, which visited Slovenia, under the leadership of Sophie in ‘t Veld, in order to check the situation regarding the rule of law and freedom of the media in our country. Fajon responded to this with a very poor excuse, claiming that Tanko was merely correcting grammatical mistakes in the report. The response of the mainstream media in this matter is very telling – namely, they have shown absolutely no interest in this matter, not even enough to find out how something like this could have happened at all.
Borut Rojc, a city councillor who ran on the list of the SD party, also came forward, noting that he did not find his statement about the financial assistance of the Ministry of the Interior, led by Minister Aleš Hojs, in the report. The financial assistance in question was offered to the border municipalities that had suffered damage due to illegal migrations. “This is great for Tanja Fajon, because if my statement had been in the report, she could not use it to oppose the current government of the Republic of Slovenia,” he pointed out, urging the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, to launch an independent investigation, to figure out what exactly Tanja Fajon’s assistant had edited. “The European Parliament cannot afford to give people the impression that anyone who is in a position of power and has five minutes to spare can influence what will be written in the report,” he added.
Earlier this year, the Social Democrats expelled the mayor of Ilirska Bistrica, Emil Rojc, from their ranks. Before that, it had long been known that Rojc had been a big thorn in the side of the party’s leadership in Ljubljana, especially as far as the Youth Forum and the party president were concerned. One of the reasons for this was also that the mayor was not in favour of illegal immigration. The SD party was also bothered by the fact that Rojc successfully cooperated with the SDS party – which his son Borut Rojc also pointed out.
