Documentary on climate celebrity Greta runs with abysmal ratings

A BBC series focusing on radical Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has flopped spectacularly. Judging by the numbers, hardly anyone has watched the show.

BBC has made a documentary miniseries on radical climate celebrity Greta Thunberg. The first of the 3 one-hour episodes aired on 12 April. The series follows Ms Thunberg from her native Sweden to the US, Chile, Spain, the UK and Switzerland as she spends a year bunking off school while ‘exploring the science of global warming and challenging world leaders on the growing crisis.’

Despite the fact that the series was aired prime time at 9 pm and featured people like Sir David Attenborough, former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with dramatic footage of calving glaciers, the show has flopped.

According to the ratings figures from Overnights.TV, the show on the BBC’s flagship BBC1 channel lost 55 per cent of its audience from the previous slot. It averaged 1.08 m viewers with a 6.30 per cent share of the total audience. This compares most unfavourably with the show in the same slot the week before, Masterchef, which averaged 3.56 million viewers with an 18.9 percent audience share.
