It is incomprehensible to think that in this day and age, in democratic Slovenia, we might still be witnessing an inconceivable revolutionary hatred towards members of the SDS party, which indicates a further incitement of hatred towards those who think differently in Slovenia. However, it seems that the authoritarian spirit is continuing to successfully stifle the young shoot of democracy that sprouted in the spring thaw of the late 1980s.
As a result, we can see scenes, similar to those from the Republic of South Africa from the Apartheid period in our country as well, or scenes that once appeared in the Wild West and can now only be seen in Hollywood movies: “No Irish, no blacks, no dogs.” The Nazis treated the Jews similarly.
And this is supposed to be the lauded leftist tolerance? It should also be noted that such act – if it turns out that it really happened – can be criminally prosecuted under the Slovenian Constitution: “Any incitement to national, racial, religious, or other discrimination, and the inflaming of national, racial, religious, or other hatred and intolerance are unconstitutional. Any incitement to violence and war is unconstitutional.”
The Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia also states that “In Slovenia everyone shall be guaranteed equal human rights and fundamental freedoms irrespective of national origin, race, sex, language, religion, political, or other conviction, material standing, birth, education, social status, disability, or any other personal circumstance.”
The editorial board of our media outlet received the following letter: “Dear Sir or Madam, I walk past certain business premises in Celje every day, and today I noticed this vile move by one of the salons in Celje. The salon in the city centre has put up a sticker on its door with a sign prohibiting the entry of supporters of the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS), which I find to be a pretty vile move by the left-wing opposition in the third largest Slovenian city.”
“I thought it appropriate to let you know what is happening in Celje. Kind regards, a supporter of the current government.” We wrote to the local committee of the SDS party in Celje with a journalistic question and for any additional explanations. We wanted to know whether they knew about this story and what is the name of the salon in question. We are still waiting for a response.
