Will The West Suffer The Same Fate As Rome?

In recent decades, we have witnessed an increasingly evident process of erosion of the fundamental values that have formed the core of our civilisation for centuries. A society that loses its identity, its faith, its respect for tradition, and gives itself over to hedonism and pornography as the norm of everyday life is, in fact, embarking on a dangerous path of self-destruction. There are many such “indicators” today that are leading society to “moral ruin”, and it is clear who the people are who are promoting them.

The fall of Rome was not caused by an enemy outside its borders, but by internal decay. The decline of morality, the debauchery, the loss of faith and the decadence of the elite destroyed a once mighty civilisation. Is this not history repeating itself today?

The physical health of a society has a crucial bearing on its existence, stability and long-term future. It is not just an individual’s personal value, but a fundamental factor that influences economic strength, demographic development, social cohesion and even national security.

Advertising “disease”

In spite of all that, in the West, “obesity” is celebrated, and the concept of “body positivity” is being promoted, turning “the concept of self-acceptance into a glorification of unhealthy lifestyles. Obesity, once recognised as a serious health risk, is now celebrated as an alternative version of health, all under the guise of promoting self-love,” wrote the Matrix Mystery profile on the social network X. The author of the post also noted that this dangerous narrative normalises life-threatening conditions and discourages individuals from taking responsibility for their own health, which ultimately benefits the industries that make their earnings from disease. Examples of such industries are the big pharmaceutic industry and the processed food sector.

Feminism and the destruction of “masculinity”

The once legitimate quest for equality has been radicalised into an ideological struggle against traditional gender roles. But gender roles are very real, and a strong man – physically, emotionally, morally and spiritually – is a necessary component of a healthy, stable and sustainable society, and history, since the very beginning of civilisation, is proof of this. It is not just an ideal of masculinity, but a structural pillar that enables development, protection, leadership and the maintenance of order. The role of men, especially at a time when traditional values are becoming increasingly relativised, is crucial to the existence of communities. Without the presence of men, society becomes vulnerable and chaotic and loses the fundamental structure that allows it to exist in the long term.

Feminism has begun to present motherhood and the role of the housewife as oppressive and masculinity as dangerous. As a result, families broke up, women pursued careers at the expense of motherhood, and men became passive and insecure. The modern narrative labels masculinity as “toxic”, which inhibits men from accepting their natural roles as leaders, protectors and fathers. The result is a generation of lost boys, absent fathers and children without clear role models – and a social fabric that is increasingly fragile.

Decline in fertility

In addition to the attempt to destroy gender roles and biological sex, as well as the destruction of “masculinity”, it is perhaps not surprising that fertility is declining in line with this. Declining fertility and the destruction of the nuclear family have brought us to the point where Western societies are facing a demographic crisis, with fertility rates plummeting. This trend is a direct consequence of social pressures that discourage family formation, career ambitions and personal freedom.

The fertility rate (average number of children per woman) in most Western countries, such as the USA, Canada, countries of the European Union and Australia, has fallen below the 2.1 level needed to maintain a stable population without immigration. For example:

– EU: The average fertility rate in 2021 was about 1.5 children per woman (Eurostat).
– USA: The fertility rate has reached a record low of 1.6 children per woman in 2023 (CDC).
– Slovenia: The fertility rate is around 1.55 (Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia – SURS, 2022).

Pornography and the war against religion

In the context of the moral decay of society, the pandemic of pornography, the decay of sexual values and the decline of religion represent the intertwining forces that are dismantling the foundations of Western civilisation. The hyper-sexualisation and normalisation of pornography, supported by the rise of platforms such as OnlyFans, are eroding notions of love, respect and intimacy, creating a generation of emotionally numb, isolated individuals, incapable of building healthy relationships. OnlyFans, where individuals, especially women, market their bodies under the guise of “empowerment”, are, in reality, digital brothels that reinforce a culture of exploitation and a loss of respect for the body and self.

Studies show that overexposure to pornography reduces the ability to form deep emotional bonds, leading to depression, anxiety and loneliness. At the same time, the flagrant and clear war against religion and spirituality is erasing the moral compass, establishing materialism and hedonism as the dominant principles, deepening the spiritual void and fostering a society that is increasingly alienated, vulnerable and subject to manipulation. When people abandon faith and core spiritual values, they do not gain freedom – they lose direction. Without a sense of meaning and higher purpose, life becomes a series of pleasure-seeking moments. But such “freedom” leads to spiritual emptiness, alienation, depression and inner emptiness. Hedonism, based on the logic of “right now”, does not offer fulfilment but addiction to fleeting feelings of satisfaction.

Indoctrination and the creation of “confusion”

Instead of promoting curiosity, logical reasoning and critical thinking, schools and universities in the Western world increasingly impose ideological content such as gender theories, radical activism and political correctness. In some countries, children are exposed to gender reassignment content as early as primary school – in the USA, for example, 37 states allow the teaching of “gender fluidity” before the age of 12. Such indoctrination distracts young people from reality and fosters mental insecurity.

The West is sinking deeper and deeper into a confusion of its own making – debates about pronouns, censorship of “offensive” truths, and the disintegration of family values are at the forefront of society’s priorities. Meanwhile, countries like China, India or even Russia are building their futures with an emphasis on strength, stability, traditional values and technological development. “Where we foster uncertainty and doubt, they foster confidence, order and preparedness for the future,” added the aforementioned X profile.

Erasing identity and historical memory

Identity politics have replaced unity and common goals with division and victimhood, encouraging people to see themselves as oppressed on the basis of race, gender or sexual orientation. This narrative creates endless divisions, making it impossible to address real social problems. Instead of finding solutions, identity politics have led to constant internal strife and polarisation, ensuring that people remain distracted while real power structures remain unchallenged. It should be added that at the same time as Western countries are destroying the identity of the nation through active migration policies, a nation that is ashamed of its roots is also losing its self-confidence and its inner strength.

The abandonment of national identity, religion, language and cultural symbols opens the door to the disintegration of national unity. Globalism without an anchor in one’s own culture means a loss of distinctiveness, tradition and pride. Such a nation is easily manipulated, without the will to exist and self-preserve.

The culture of “death”

When life is no longer sacred, when basic human values are trampled upon, nihilism takes hold. Suicide, euthanasia, indifference to unborn life – all these are the consequences of a society that no longer believes in the eternal meaning of human beings. The culture of death always begins where respect for life dies.

The West has lost its compass – not only its moral compass, but also its spiritual and intellectual compass. In the quest for freedom, it has destroyed the meaning of responsibility, and in the name of progress, it has forgotten the wisdom of past generations. The result is a society that is divided, vulnerable and increasingly unable to defend its values. While the rest of the world is moving towards strength and renewal, the West is sinking into decadence, alienation and confusion – which could result in its demise in the long run.
