Italian boxer Angela Carini withdrew from her fight against a biological male named Imane Khelif at the Olympic Games. The referee declared him the winner after Carini decided to forfeit after 46 seconds.
After being punched twice by Imane Khelif in the opening round, Angela Carini said she had “never been hit so hard before.” According to some reports, the boxer even broke her nose. Where are the feminists and women’s activists now?
At the very beginning of the boxing match, Khelif swung at Carini. Just before he landed a series of punches in the opening exchange, Carini raised her hand towards the referee, saying that she needed a break. After a brief discussion with her coaches, she returned to the fight and immediately received a second punch. Carini then raised her hand again towards the referee to formally announce her decision to withdraw from the fight.
When the referee raised the hand of the male winner, who should not have competed in women’s boxing, the Italian woman fell to her knees in tears, as seen in the video that has since made rounds on social media. The Algerian boxer tried to hug Carini twice, but she refused to shake his hand.
A wave of indignation followed the event, and we saw lots of outraged comments on social media. “A man had just punched a woman until she started to cry. We usually have a word for that, and it’s not sport,” read one comment. “Today, Angela Carini’s Olympic dreams were shattered by Imane Khelif, a male boxer. Men should not be allowed to trample women in sport,” another commentator pointed out. An account called “End wokeness” pointed out that an absolute travesty just happened at the Olympic Games. “Angela Carini is forced to box against a biological male. She quits after just 45 seconds, and cries hysterically as her opponent is declared the winner. Don’t look away. This is wokeness.” And the official X account of Visegrad24 wrote: “Italy’s Angela Carini gave up 1 minute into the fight with Algeria’s Imane Khelif. Carini took a blow to the face and said she ‘had never been punched that hard before.’ Imane Khelif failed a sex test at the World Championship but was allowed in the Olympics.”
Many are now wondering where the feminists are when you need them …
Algeria’s boxer Imane Khelif failed a gender-related test at last year’s Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, which led to his disqualification. The Olympic Committee has nevertheless allowed him to compete in the women’s up to 66 kg and women’s up to 57 kg Olympic competitions, which are taking place this week.
