Prime Minister Janša signs Joint Declaration on EU legislative priorities for 2022

On the margins of the European Council meeting yesterday in Brussels, Prime Minister Janez Janša signed the Joint Declaration of the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission on the EU’s legislative priorities for 2022. A resilient and reinvigorated EU will remain at the forefront of events in the year ahead.

By signing this declaration, Prime Minister Janša, on behalf of the Presidency of the Council, European Parliament President David Sassoli and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen set out the shared vision for the coming year for a more resilient Europe. The declaration demonstrates the European institutions’ determination to emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as from other global crises and the consequences of climate change.

Prime Minister Janša expressed his pleasure at being present today, together with the President of the European Parliament and the President of the European Commission, at the signing of this important declaration.  “All three of us are united in delivering an ambitious political and legislative agenda that aims to enhance Europe’s resilience and promote its recovery after the pandemic, enabling us all to emerge better and stronger from this crisis,” said the Prime Minister. “This declaration builds on what we have achieved in the current year and reaffirms our commitment to a fairer, greener and more digital Europe, a Union that looks to the future and responds to citizens’ expectations without leaving anyone behind,” he said, adding that the declaration sets out all the priorities that will guide our activities in the coming year. The Prime Minister thanked all member states for their support and all institutions for their fruitful cooperation.
