There are more and more indications that parliamentary elections are fast approaching, including bizarre public opinion polls comparing potential “new faces” with each other, as well as the inflation of new political parties. Kučan would apparently like to continue the “tradition” and “appoint” his own operative in Golob’s place – the retired politician Golobič, known from the Ultra affair.
The Freedom Movement (Gibanje Svoboda) has apparently been discarded. And the people behind the scenes also realise that, as they are frantically searching for a potential candidate to be the “new face” in politics, who would once again disappoint the over 400 thousand naive Freedom Movement voters.
If Member of the European Parliament Vladimir Prebilič (former mayor of Kočevje) enters the political race as a potential “new face”, Robert Golob will fare badly in the next elections. Here is what the media outlet Info360 had to say about this: “A cross-section of opinion polls shows that Prebilič’s party could take as much as 20 percent of the voters who voted for the Freedom Movement party in the last national elections away from Robert Golob.“
Given the inflation of new political parties, it is difficult to predict anything today. After all, the elections are (probably) still a year away, and Prebilič is said to be more comfortable in Brussels. But in any case, we can expect that the Freedom Movement party will not repeat the electoral success of 2022. Golob would then have to settle for a ministerial position – in the style of the former Prime Minister Marjan Šarec – until he finally leaves politics for good.
Kučan would like to “enthrone” his operative – Golobič
Milan Kučan is rumoured to want Gregor Golobič, the political renegade known from the Ultra affair, as his “new face”. In light of this, let’s think back to the affair in question. In June 2009, Golobič admitted that he had lied when he denied to journalists his ownership stake in the company Ultra. The links went to the Netherlands. Nevertheless, he remained a minister, and his decision not to resign was supported by the then-President of the country, Danilo Türk. The company Ultra also received unsecured loans from the Nova Ljubljanska Banka bank (NLB), but nothing happened to them.
A new face, a new disappointment…
Golobič is also said to be reluctant to return to politics. But the deep state will try to fill the void created by the incompetence of the Freedom Movement and Golob. The Delo newspaper noted that “Delo’s Politbarometer [a kind of public opinion poll representation tool] shows that the voters of the coalition parties and the potential voters of the centre-left parties are divided into two roughly equally sized crowds.”
“A good quarter of the total electorate is made up of current supporters of all three coalition parties. About the same number of potential voters of the left-liberal parties are deactivated in the group of undefined voters.”
Janša: Slovenia needs a constitutional majority of reason!
The President of the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS) Janez Janša has also commented on this, saying: “Due to all of this, Slovenia needs a constitutional majority of reason in the next mandate.” In his opinion, this is a big goal. It requires a big step to be made. But for such a step, three fundamental conditions must be met, just as they were at the time of Slovenia gaining independence. These conditions are: an external, international environment favourable to change; a clearly defined goal in which Slovenians recognise themselves; a political force capable of grasping the opportunity and the need of the times.
