[Public Opinion Poll] Freedom Movement Party Sees Biggest Drop In Support; SDS Is At The Top

The latest findings from the public opinion poll conducted by the Parsifal Agency show that the Freedom Movement party (Gibanje Svoboda) has seen the most significant drop in support compared to previous polls. If the elections were held on the coming Sunday, the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS) would get the most support. Additionally, 52.3 percent of respondents would definitely take part in the next elections to the National Assembly, while 15.4 percent of respondents would definitely not take part in the next elections.

The latest Parsifal poll, conducted on the 4th of October, shows that the SDS party would be the party with the most support in the elections to the National Assembly, with 25.6 percent, followed by the Freedom Movement party with 13.1 percent, the Social Democrats (Socialni demokrati – SD) with 7.0 percent and the New Slovenia party (Nova Slovenija – NSi) with 5.1 percent. The parties that would be left just below the parliamentary threshold would be the Voice of Pensioners of Slovenia (Glas upokojencev Slovenije) with 3.9 percent, Vesna – the Green party (Vesna – Zelena stranka) with 3.7 percent and the Left party with a mere 3.1 percent. The Slovenian People’s Party (Slovenska ljudska stranka – SLS) would get 2.7 percent, the Truth party (Resni.ca) 2.5 percent, the Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia (Demokratska stranka upokojencev Slovenije – DeSUS) 2.3 percent, and the Pirates (Pirati) 1.7 percent.

13.7 percent of respondents were undecided on the day of the poll, 10.7 percent would not vote, and 4.6 percent would not vote for any of the parties mentioned above.

A nearly 7-percent drop in support for the Freedom Movement; the Left party would drop out of the National Assembly

Parsifal compared the results of the latest poll with those of the polls conducted on the 8th of September 2023, the 17th of November 2023, and the 4th of October 2024. The results of the comparison show that support for most parties has risen since the first measurement, except for the Freedom Movement and the Left parties. Support for the two parties peaked in September last year and then declined compared to the next two measurements. While support for the Left party has fallen by 1.8 percent since the first measurement, the biggest drop was recorded by the Freedom Movement – by almost 7 percent.

13.7 percent of respondents are still undecided, 10.7 percent would not vote, and 4.6 percent would not vote for any party.

After collecting the data, Parsifal only took into account the data of those who identified themselves as voters of a specific party, and those who would definitely go vote. Parsifal found that 43.2 percent of those respondents would vote for the SDS party, 20.9 percent for the Freedom Movement, 9.1 percent for the Social Democrats, and 6.2 percent for the NSi party. 4.4 percent of support would go to the Left party and 4.2 percent to the SLS party. The following parties would fall below the parliamentary threshold: the Voice of the Pensioners of Slovenia with 3.4 percent, Vesna – the Green party with 3.2 percent, Resnic.ca with 2.2 percent, DeSUS with 1.7 percent, and the Pirates with 1.5 percent.

According to the poll, 30.7 percent of respondents support the government, while just under two thirds, or 62.9 percent, do not support it.
