In addition to it being a betrayal of Ukraine, Tuesday’s protest that was held on the Republic Square in Ljubljana was also a betrayal of Slovenia, similar to the one we saw 30 years ago, when Slovenia’s independence was being threatened by the occupier – the Yugoslav People’s Army. And on Tuesday, the same people who supported these policies came to the protest and then changed the protest in support of Ukraine into a protest against the government and their own homeland.
Non-governmental organisations announced a protest against the war in Ukraine for Tuesday, where they were also joined by the Youth Activist Organisation (Mladinska aktivistična organizacija – referred to as MAO). The latter shared a post on their Instagram stories, after also publishing the invite to the protests, that read: “Against imperialism and against all nationalisms. Let’s stop wars. Let’s tear down the borders.”
Namely, the youth organisation MAO believes that there is no good or bad side in this war, which also means that they do not support the people of Ukraine who are fighting to protect their country. As they also wrote on Facebook, the youth organisation MAO is not choosing a side in this war; however, they do condemn all types of imperialism and shows of power. “Especially since the consequences of their actions are not actually felt by the leaders, but only by the people. In the war, which was started by Putin but made possible by the West, there will be no victors. Therefore, the only ones we can show solidarity towards are the people,” they wrote, adding: “Against the war for the interests of capital. No war between nations. No peace between classes!”
In the stories they published on Instagram, the youth organisation MAO also claims that the anti-authoritarian self-defence unit called the Revolutionary Committee in Kyiv was established by an anarchist movement. And supposedly, Ukrainians, Russians and Belarussians are all involved in it. “The anarchist self-defence cells are also being set up in other cities across Ukraine. Part of the movement also successfully fled Ukraine with the help of the international anarchist movement,” they added. In the next story, they wrote: “The anarchist units in Ukraine have said that they are fighting against Russian imperialism and the fascist and authoritarian Putin’s regime, but that they are also not deluding themselves when it comes to the country of Ukraine and its character. Anarchists in Russia and Belarus, who have been suffering under brutal repression for years, share the Ukrainians’ view of the nature of Putin’s regime.

The youth organisation MAO also claims that the “anti-fascist Donbas” is a myth – nothing more than a product of Russia’s propaganda war. “The pro-Russian units in Donbas are pro-system and authoritarian. They have nothing in common with anti-fascism,” they wrote. On the other hand, the youth organisation MAO is also against Ukrainian nationalism, which they say is strongly present and very influential, “as are the fascist and neo-Nazi civilian, party and paramilitary formations.”
If we “translate” their writing into practice, we quickly come to the conclusion that the betrayed Ukraine, which is being brutally attacked by the aggressor Russia, which is attacking civilians on a daily basis, while violating international conventions – which will inevitably lead to an investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court. Both the youth organisation MAO and the non-governmental organisations are merely an extension of the leftists – the successors of Communists, who, on the 26th of April, when World War II was raging in Europe, formed an anti-imperialist front against the allies who fought against criminal Nazism and communism. Let us also remind you that before Nazi Germany’s attack on the Soviet Union, Slovenian Communists were considered to be their allies.
Many non-governmental organisations are also calling for the disarmament of Slovenia in the most crucial moments when World War III is fast approaching, and Tuesday’s protest is, in addition to the great betrayal of Ukraine, also another betrayal of Slovenia, similar to the one we saw 30 years ago when Slovenia’s independence was being threatened by the Yugoslav People’s Army. And on Tuesday, it was the same people, with the support of the same policy, who attended the protest, which was also a protest against the current government and their own homeland.
