Longtime Diplomat dr. Božo Cerar Expressed Support for his Colleague Lea Stančič, Who Represented Slovenia in National Costume

Longtime Slovenian diplomat Božo Cerar, Ph.D., expressed support for Lea Stančič, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Romania, who recently wore the national costume to a protocol event. Namely, he sent us a photo from his personal archive, on which he is also wearing the national costume while performing his diplomatic duties. He also wrote: “In support of my colleague Lea Stančič.”

Let’s recap. Lea Stančič, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Romania, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on the 14th of April 2021, wearing a Slovenian national costume. On the 13th of April 2021, Ambassador Lea Stančič also handed over the copies of her credentials to the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, Dimitru Socolan.

The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Bucharest is thus taking over the non-resident accreditation in the Republic of Moldova. Due to what she wore at the protocol event – namely, the national costume, Stančič was attacked and ridiculed by numerous leftists on social networks. Many claimed that by doing this, she is taking Slovenia back to some kind of stupid-national backward past… They also said that we are becoming Orban’s diplomats, and so on. Of course, the exact opposite is true. We must be proud of our Slovenian roots and traditions!
