In early 2022, when the Freedom Movement party (Gibanje Svoboda) was just starting its political career, its “proven cadre” was very close-knit, hermetically sealed to the public, and enigmatic. Now, as the party is in an advanced state of disintegration, more and more details are coming to light from behind the scenes of this politically opportunistic project of assembled socialists. Apparently, they have become so frightened of the leaking of information that they are now systematically checking the electronic devices of the party’s Members of Parliament.
Reliable sources tell us that the Freedom Movement party is demanding that its MPs hand over their personal cell phones for inspection in order to find the ‘mole’ and stop the leak – and that party members who have advanced their careers with the party’s help are even complying with such a criminal demand, which is not surprising, given that these are mainly opportunists and career leeches in public service, whose choice is either the Freedom Movement party or being put on the list of jobseekers at the Employment Service. The leakage of information has increased markedly in the last year.
If last year the party was as cohesive and mysterious as the Calabrian Gomorrah, this spring we began to receive letters from disgruntled members of the Freedom Movement Ljubljana, expressing their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating state of the party’s work at the local level and the enormous influence of the local Secretary-General, Vesna Vuković. But as it turns out, the discontent is much greater than one might think. We later heard that some of the ruling party’s MPs had apparently gotten sick of Vuković and that even some ministers did not want to talk to her anymore.
More and more personal details are leaking out of the party
We have also heard details about the mental health of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, and her conflicts with both her professional colleagues in Parliament, as well as party members. We also found out why she was absent from the latest episode of the show Tarča (Target) on the national media outlet, where she was scheduled to appear. The official reason why the Freedom Movement cancelled her appearance on the show was supposedly health problems. However, our source claims that this is not actually the case or is just partially true. Klakočar Zupančič had confirmed her participation but was then forbidden from appearing on the show by the party, because they allegedly found out that Jelka Godec, the leader of the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS) parliamentary group would also be a guest on the show.
The source also revealed that Klakočar had a nervous breakdown the day before the show, which was a result of the events that transpired at the meeting of the Commission for Public Office and Election, the meeting of the leaders of the parliamentary groups, and later on, a fight within the party, due to an internal conflict with the Secretary-General Vesna Vuković.
A few months ago, we would not have received such hints to our editorial office, because there really was a political omerta on everything that was happening within the party. But apparently, people in the Freedom Movement are panicking about this, because they have seen that their boat is leaking information. So once again, we got a reliable anonymous tip from deep inside the Freedom Movement, who told us that there is a state of crisis in the party, where they are maniacally looking for “whistle-blowers” who pass on information to us and to other media outlets, critical of the authorities.
Outside the circle of trust
Our reliable source has also provided us with another highly significant piece of information. The Vice-President of the party and Speaker of the National Assembly was reportedly unaware of the resignation of two MPs from the party, namely Dejan Zavec and Martin Marzidovšek, which happened recently. Well, all of this supposedly led to some sort of psychological collapse. Those who have been in the cabinet next to her throughout the saga know what kind of collapse. The public, who had no access to the cabinet, heard only echoes. Among other things, that Klakočar Zupančič was extremely mad at the SDS party’s head of the parliamentary group. Allegedly, she intends to “get back at her” in the future.
Searching through personal electronic devices points to a system breakdown
We have already written about the party’s Secretary-General Vuković’s previous requests for a review of the party MPs’ phones. This was also one of the reasons for Klakočar Zupančič’s bad mood after Vuković allegedly demanded that all MPs hand over their mobile phones for personal inspection, as she was convinced that one of them was leaking sensitive party information to the media. Now, this practice has apparently become much more widespread and covers a wider range of party people.
What does this say about the party itself? First of all, that they do not respect the constitutional position of the Members of the National Assembly and that the boat called Freedom is sinking. They have now seen that the house of cards is being torn down on the hollowness and incompetence of a politically installed cadre that knows practically nothing other than revanchism. That is why the people from this party now find themselves in a similar position to the members of the Zares party in 2011, the Modern Centre Party (Stranka modernega centra – SMC) in 2018, and the List of Marjan Šarec (LMŠ) in 2022, clearly aware that they will have to get back in the water and swim to the next ship from Milan Kučan‘s famous shipyard.
