Director-General of the Police, Anton Olaj, Ph.D., has announced that after learning about and then examining the criminal complaint against him, presented by the Levica party (The Left) at a press conference in the National Assembly on Wednesday, the 9th of June 2021, he has now filed a written criminal complaint against the party, on suspicion of committing a criminal offence of a false accusation. He added that he categorically rejects any allegations of politicisation of the police.
The Levica party has pressed criminal charges against Anton Olaj, as well as certain media outlets, including ours, on suspicion of abusing the official position because, referring to a forged document, Olaj called for the introduction of pre-trial proceedings against the Levica party on suspicion of violating the constitutional order. They claimed that he had thus gotten material gain for the SDS party in the form of exerting additional repressive pressure on their party while at the same time causing damage to the reputation, honour and good name of the Levica party.
Olaj, of course, also responded with a criminal complaint he filed against the political party in question. The Director-General of the police wrote in a press release that the police would continue to act impartially and within the legal principle of equality before the law. “I will continue to defend freedom of expression in respectful discourse. Nowhere (neither orally nor in writing) did I ever advocate the initiation of an investigation against any political party,” Dr. Olaj added.
“In the criminal complaint, (false) non-existent facts are maliciously attributed to me,” he added. The criminal complaint against Dr. Anton Olaj was introduced at a press conference last Wednesday by the leader of the Levica party MPs, Matej T. Vatovec. Among the defendant are also publishers and editors-in-chief of the web portals and media outlets V Fokusu (In Focus), e-Maribor, Nova24TV and Demokracija (Democracy).
