What Will The Freedom Movement Party Advertise In The Referendum Campaign? A Boycott?

The ruling Freedom Movement party (Gibanje Svoboda) has announced a boycott of the upcoming referendum on privileges for first-class cultural workers. Nevertheless, it is begging municipalities to provide free advertising space.

Asta Vrečko, the Minister of Culture and the leader of the Left party (Levica), and Robert Golob, the leader of the Freedom Movement party (Gibanje Svoboda) and Prime Minister, agree that the referendum on the pension supplements for first-class cultural workers should be boycotted. The National Assembly has set the date of the referendum for the 11th of May.

Irony: Despite the boycott, they want free advertising space for the campaign

The biggest irony in all of this is that the Freedom Movement is still begging municipalities for the right to use advertising space for free during the referendum campaign.

Namely, here is a letter they sent to all municipalities:

“TO ALL MUNICIPALITIES IN SLOVENIA Date: the 8th of April 2025

SUBJECT: Application for the right to use advertising spaces free of charge during the referendum campaign.

Dear Sir or Madam, Pursuant to Article 8 of the Electoral and Referendum Campaign Act, we hereby inform you that the political party the Freedom Movement is the organiser of the referendum campaign for the referendum on the Law on the Pension Supplement for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Arts (ZDPIDU).
