The hunt for the so-called “amphibians” – people who work in the public and also the private sector – seems to be intensifying. The radicalised magazine Mladina (Youth) does not hold back when it comes to attacking those who are not to the liking of “their” people. First, they tried to instil contempt for doctors, then they started looking for “amphibians” in the ranks of journalists. But not among their own, of course. The only problem is Rosvita Pesek, who had been announced as the host of a discussion evening on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of DEMOS.
“It started with a discussion about amphibians in healthcare, but we also need to talk about amphibians elsewhere, in higher education, and also in journalism. Avoiding conflicts of interest is a commandment in journalism, just as it is in universities and in healthcare,” the magazine Mladina wrote about the article entitled “Amphibians in journalism” on the social network X, after having in the past made sure to discredit the medical profession and individual doctors, and they even used false claims to do so.
This time, with the article written by Luka Vovk, which begins with the author praising the government for how seriously it had tackled the “problem of ‘amphibians'” – doctors employed in state hospitals and health centres who also earn extra money by working for private individuals on a fee-paying basis – the search for amphibians has been diverted into journalism.
Left-wing fascism at work
As already said, the photo of the article is more than telling. It shows the long-time journalist of the show Odmevi (Echoes), Rosvita Pesek, who recently attended a panel discussion on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of DEMOS – the Democratic Opposition of Slovenia party, which was organised by the Association for the Values of Slovenian Independence (VSO). She was originally scheduled to moderate the panel, but this did not happen because the editor-in-chief of the news programme at the national media outlet, Polona Fijavž, forbade Pesek from moderating the said discussion.
Pesek was banned from hosting the panel on the grounds that “she cannot moderate a conversation with anyone who may be a potential guest of the show Odmevi”. Given that the magazine Mladina decided to write an article on the subject, it is more than logical to assume that they agree with this. But where were they before … For example, when Igor E. Bergant, the other presenter of the show Odmevi, also hosted several public events in the past, where people who could be “potential guests of Odmevi” performed. Nor did they find it problematic when Radio-Television Slovenia (RTVS) journalist Saša Krajnc hosted an event on the occasion of Justice Day. The then-Minister of Justice, Dominika Švarc Pipan, even praised him after the event: “As always – professional, sympathetic and with a perpetual warm smile. When the Ministry of Justice was choosing the presenter for today’s programme, we decided on him unanimously and with a good and meaningful reason.”
