The recent regular session of the National Assembly was interrupted at the start by shouts from a few protesters carrying Palestinian flags, who gathered on the balcony of the Great Hall of the National Assembly. A few minutes into the sitting, they started shouting, “Sanctions now!” The Speaker of the National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, then suspended the sitting for five minutes, while the security services removed the protesters.
During the resumption of the regular session, which began at noon on Monday, MP Jelka Godec from the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS) asked the Speaker of the National Assembly who had invited the protesters to the National Assembly and how they would ensure that this would not happen again. “Last time you said that the security of MPs was taken care of. Apparently not,” MP Jelka Godec warned.
The Speaker of the National Assembly replied that security in the National Assembly would be discussed at a working consultation. She said that the individuals who had protested had been announced as individuals who would be following the session. “We have open sessions, anyone can observe them from the balcony, but they must respect the rules of conduct,” said Urška Klakočar Zupančič.

At another regular session at the beginning of the year – namely, on the 29th of January, members of the Movement for Palestinian Rights held banners on the balcony of the Great Hall of the National Assembly to remind MPs that Slovenia should take action against Israel. This is a group of people who support the terrorist organisation Hamas.
On Monday, the MPs, who began their March regular session, had questions for the Prime Minister Robert Golob and his ministers on the agenda.
