The “depoliticisation” of the media, the demolition of the fence on the southern border, the last judgment of the Constitutional Court – all this and more is Svoboda. In yesterday’s Dnevnik, exceptionally, there was no announcement for Utrip show – which does not mean that it was not there, it only means that it was prepared by Igor Pirkovič, one of the “few”. And Utrip – as expected – raised the pulse of many again.
And Svoboda (‘Freedom’) came – as they say? “Politics has nothing to look for in the media,” but at the same time, we have a whole bunch of “independent” journalists who – especially recently – have ventured into politics. Yesterday, one of “those few” journalists of the public broadcaster RTVS raised the pulse of many again, of course with Utrip show. This is one of those shows in which the author is even expected to add at least a touch of his point of view – but only if this author is not one of the “few” dissenters who are literally an endangered and practically extinct species in a public media company. This time the Utrip show was prepared by Igor Pirkovič.
As we have already reported, last week the Mandate-Election Commission of the National Assembly supported Alenka Sivka as a member of the programme board of Radiotelevision Slovenia (RTVS) last week – a journalist who, by the way, wanted to try out as an MP in the last parliamentary elections, but failed. She ran on the Gibanje Svoboda party. Yes, this is also the “depoliticisation” of RTV, or as Robert Golob would say, they will not replace “theirs with ours”, but they will replace those who do not belong there. Completely different, right. “Laws are adopted in the National Assembly according to a regular, shortened, and urgent procedure – when it is necessary when it concerns the interests of the security and defence of the country or to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters or to prevent difficult-to-repair consequences for the functioning of the state,” explained Pirkovič and added that the latter should be happening right now – and that is because of those few.
“Hell, now there is freedom. And in freedom you never know what you can and cannot do,” Jernej Štromajer visionarily quoted Uncle Vanč from the film My Father, Socialist Kulak two years ago. Asta Vrečko, the current Minister of Culture, said already in 2015 that none of the then coalition parties corresponded to the programmatic principles of the Levica party – that is, “against privatisation, for co-management of companies, and other socialist measures.”
Today we are here – in the time for socialist measures, because the Levica party is part of the coalition. “Factories to workers. They started with RTV. A labour director and a new leadership are coming, and now it will be known what is right and when it is about demolishing revolutionary gains,” Pirkovič explained, adding that it is clear who will draw up the lists and determine who belongs there and who does not. Aurelio Juri, a former member of the ZLSD, has already said what should be done if Uroš Urbanija became the director of RTVS, who received the majority support of the programme council. “I expect a collective strike without mercy… if they do not carry him out by force,” he wrote on Twitter.
Never before has politics entered RTV so obviously – in a way, the new law on RTV was justified by emergency situations. And in an emergency, anything is allowed. Chemist, innovator, and entrepreneur Aleš Štrancar emphasised in a recent interview that it is sick in itself that we got an anti-Janša coalition. If we live in a democratic society, we should respect each other, otherwise we will end in some ideology, some absolutism sooner or later.
Coffee in the National Assembly is no longer a problem, nor is the fact that state officials are placed in the highest salary class or that family members go on business trips with the Prime Minister. Let’s be honest, none of the above is really a problem – “but the problem is in different standards, in double standards. You can either blow something up to the point of impossibility, or you can show understanding,” Pirkovič remarked and continued that politics entered the media controlled by financial oligarchs a long time ago. As long as they are united against a common enemy, things run smoothly. However, when the sharing of the cake begins, mutual accounting also begins at the same time. Mainly through PR services and journalists who write these articles on dictation, Štrancar explained.
“And if the previous governments used at least a little wisdom in keeping good directors and managers and replacing someone here and there, the current government has unleashed a tsunami for all management personnel in professional institutions. Every method is used to change us. /…/ But how could the rulers stop the lynching when they came to power on the wings of a lynching carried out by the street,” wrote the now former director of NIJZ, Milan Krek, in his column.
The street, or part of civil society, which destroyed the previous government with protests, has already been rewarded under the current one. Favours must be returned. There will be no natural history museum at Metelkova 6, the premises will be renovated for NGOs. The Minister of the Interior has ensured that there will be no punishment for violating the measures. The costs of protecting the protests were passed on to the citizens – especially to those who took health protection measures into account. Meanwhile, the number of covid infections is increasing again. If a year ago there were not even 50 per day, this year there are already over 1,000. Minister of Health Danijel Bešič Loredan claims that there is no reason to worry, the situation is under control. “From the minister’s mouth to God’s ears,” Pirkovič wished.
