The Russian-owned Slovenia’s Sberbank subsidiary, which suspended its operations on Sunday due to sanctions against Russia, was bought by Slovenian NLB Bank on Tuesday. After two days of all of Sberbank’s branches being closed, all of the bank’s operations are once again working normally since Wednesday, the Governor of the Bank of Slovenia, Boštjan Vasle, said on the show Odmevi on TV Slovenia.
On Tuesday, a solution was adopted for all clients of the former Slovenian subsidiary of the Russian-owned bank – Sberbank, which has enabled all clients to continue to use the bank without any problems, as well as use their funds normally from Wednesday onwards. The bank is being taken over by Nova ljubljanska banka (New Ljubljana Bank), which had decided to buy the Slovenian subsidiary of Sberbank. The Bank of Slovenia emphasised that the solution has preserved financial stability in Slovenia without burdening other banks or the state budget.
The Ministry of Finance also welcomed the quick solution, which has enabled the smooth operation of the bank for all its clients and also ensured the security of their savings. The ministry also emphasised that the financial system is stable and that Slovenia’s position on the capital markets is still strong.
