[Exclusive] Former RTV Director-General Kadunc Wants to Become the Director of the Slovenian Press Agency, Without Active Knowledge of One of the World Languages

Only one application was received for the position of director of the Slovenian Press Agency, the tender for which expired on the 1st of October. According to unofficial information from well-informed sources, the application was sent by the former Director-General of the public broadcaster RTV, Igor Kadunc. This information has not yet been officially confirmed by Kadunc himself. However, we also learned that Kadunc does not actually meet the conditions for the position of director of the Slovenian Press Agency.

Former Director-General Igor Kadunc failed to win a second term at the public broadcasting service RTV Slovenia this year. Apparently, he would now like to console himself by landing a different director position – namely, according to unofficial information, he supposedly applied for the position of director of the Slovenian Press Agency after Bojan Veselinovič recently resigned. Candidates for the position of director of the Slovenian Press Agency must have at least a university degree, have at least ten years of work experience in the media or with the media, of which at least five years have to be managerial experience, and must speak at least one world language at a higher level. And this is where Kadunc might have a problem.

Well-informed sources have told us that Kadunc does not have foreign language skills at a higher level. However, it appears that he himself thinks he does – and as proof, he sent a certificate of a French language course along with his job application, which he supposedly attended back in 1981.

He did not meet the conditions even when he ran for the position of director-general of RTV
Where exactly Kadunc attended this course is unclear; however, it is supposedly recorded that he reads and writes a bit slower in French. He supposedly already had the same problem on RTV; as his knowledge does not actually reach even the basic level – but at RTV, they obviously decided to turn a blind eye to this fact – similarly to what they did in many other cases, with other people who do not have the appropriate education for the work they do in Slovenia’s public media house.  However, given that the Slovenian Press Agency supervisory board is controlled by supervisors appointed by the previous governments of Miro Cerar and Marjan Šarec, there is a high probability that Kadunc will be elected director of the Slovenian Press Agency despite not meeting the requirements for it.
