One thing that we should not overlook in the scandal that has recently shaken up the Slovenian judiciary – namely, part of the allegations against Zoran Janković in the trial in the Stožice case became time-barred before the trial had even begun – is the family-prosecution-municipality background which was revealed by the web application of the Anti-Corruption Commission – Erar.
Some time ago, the prosecutor Blanka Žgajnar “missed” the two-year legal deadline, by which she should have announced that she would initiate criminal proceedings against the mayor of Ljubljana. At that time, the secretly recorded conversations that Janković was a part of, which were connected with the pharmacist Katarina, were destroyed. And now one of our sources has pointed out the Association for Power (Združenje za moč), founded on the 29th of November 1994, whose president until last year was Katjuša Bašič, better known as Katja Bašič. She is the mother of the negligent prosecutor Žgajnar.
The municipality of Ljubljana, headed by Janković, financed the association extensively during the time when it was led by the prosecutor’s mother, and according to the web application Erar’s database, a total of 224.989,47 euros were transferred to the association. From the state budget. Business records also testify to Bašič’s role in this matter.
Therefore, we sent some press questions about possible corruption in this case to the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption and the prosecutor’s office. We will update the article as soon as we get the answers.
