Ministry of Finance supports the elimination of the consequences of austerity measures for pensioners. As the additional pension adjustments have not yet completely eliminated the negative effects on the pensions, we will strive to find appropriate solutions. What has been taken away must be returned.
We also want to reiterate that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia does not plan to impose any reductions of pensions in this or the upcoming years. In fact, the opposite is true. The planned pension expenditure is increasing in the upcoming years. This year, the budget will increase by almost 6 percent, and in the coming years, by 2 to 3 percent.
Our mission is to work for the people, and that is how it will stay. We have also proven that we care about the well-being of all people, including the pensioners, with the intervention measures.
In 2020, more than 300 thousand pensioners received two solidarity allowances of up to 300 euros. A total of 67 million euros was distributed in spring and 68 million euros at the end of the year.
We also kept the pensioners in mind when preparing the changes to tax legislation. Therefore, we propose the reintroduction of the so-called senior relief, which reduces the annual tax base for pensioners after the age of 70.
Very important steps have also been taken in the field of establishing the Demographic Fund, which we have been excitedly expecting in Slovenia for several years now. The Demographic Fund is not the only source of pensions, but it is a long-term solution, and therefore, all the more important.
